Who is the Free Methodist Church of Santa Barbara?
Free Methodists are a loving community of people of all ages who share their faith and their lives. Our mission is, "By the power of the Holy Spirit and with the transforming love of Jesus, we will draw people to Christ, disciple them in faith, and equip them for ministry."
The church began in 1955 in Santa Barbara. Our current pastor, Denny Wayman, has served this congregation since 1976. Pastor Denny and his wife Cheryl came to Santa Barbara with a vision of providing a center of ministry where the community could come together and experience God's love. This has become a reality over the years as the congregation has grown not only to include three worship services on Sunday mornings at 8:00, 9:30 and 11:00 a.m., but we also have planted the Westside Initiative which worships in English and Spanish weekly. The church planted a congregation in Goleta named Light and Life Goleta, pastored by David Goss, which now worships in Isla Vista.
In our congregation, we worship in a "blended" style which celebrates the great hymns of the church while enjoying the latest in praise music. We follow the liturgical year, celebrating Advent, Christmastide, Epiphany, Lent, Holy week, Eastertide and Pentecost, while having a praise band lead worship choruses throughout most of the year.
"The mission of the Free Methodist Church is to make known to all people everywhere God's call to wholeness through forgiveness and holiness in Jesus Christ, and to invite into membership and equip for ministry all who respond in faith." Our vision is to create "healthy biblical communities of holy people multiplying disciples, leaders, groups and churches."
The Free Methodist Church in Santa Barbara serves the community through Cliff Drive Care Center. We have a fully licensed preschool and kindergarten readiness program as well as an after-kindergarten and after-school program. We have a Christian Counseling Center with state-licensed therapists who integrate professional counseling with Christian beliefs and values, and we have a Senior Luncheon program we operate in conjunction with the Villa Santa Fe retirement center across the street from the church.
The Free Methodist Church welcomes you to come and join us in our worship of God and our service to the community.
