Encounter: Justice & Creation Care

Justice and Creation Care

From the call of God to Adam & Eve to the Sermon on the Mount of Jesus to care for the poor, the Bible gives an in depth look at the requirements our Creator has made for us to care for and to love our neighbor.  One important ingredient of this charge is to protect the most vulnerable of God's children from the destruction of their ability to grow food.  For two weeks we will look at the challenge that the church is facing to address this issue, identify some of the contributing factors that have dramatically changed over the last 50 years, and explore the possibilities for ourselves and our church to respond in love to the call that God has made on our lives.

Hal Conklin is the Chairman of the Board of Administration for both the Southern California Conference of the Free Methodist Church and the national Free Methodist Church USA.  He served for 18 years in multiple elected community roles including: Mayor of Santa Barbara, President of the California League of Cities, and Vice President of the National League of Cities in Washington DC where he represented all of the cities in America to the White House and Congress.  He is best known in Santa Barbara for having established the city’s historic Cultural District, including the restoration of its downtown, including the Arlington and Granada Theatres, and Stearns Wharf.  Hal is also the co-author (with the Rev. Dr. Denny Wayman) of a weekly film commentary entitled “Cinema In Focus”.
