Encounter: Breaking Chains - A Look at Modern-Day Slavery

Breaking Chains: A Look at Modern-Day Slavery

In Exodus, we see the Israelites living as slaves to the Egyptians believing God had abandoned them. Our world is one full of injustice and the issue of Human Trafficking or Modern-Day Slavery is not something that ended when the Israelites were set free from Egypt. We will be looking at what the Bible says about slavery according to Exodus and discovering more of the biblical teachings regarding slavery. We will also look at how God created us as his agents to the world, like Moses to the Israelites, to help set the captives free and how all of us, particularly as Christians, today can participate in fighting for justice breaking the chains of Modern Day Slavery in our society!

Jess is our church intern from England and is spending 6 weeks with us at FMCSB getting to know the church and learning from our leaders. This is her first trip to America and she has been spending time with each of the pastors finding out more about their roles in our church. She is 22 and finishing her final year of her BA in Applied Theology at Moorlands Theological College. She lives with her parents and three young brothers in St Austell, Cornwall when she is not studying in the Bournemouth area. She is passionate about the issue of Human Trafficking and is a trustee for a charity (known as Exodus) which works with other abolition groups for the end of Human Trafficking.
