The Fifth Freedom:
The Philosophy of Governance in the Free Methodist Church

This talk will look at one of the key "freedoms" of the Free Methodist Church, as well as the history of governance throughout Christianity over time. Focus will be given on the role of lay leadership, as well as exploring the structure of the FMC today. We will also discuss spiritual gifts as they are used by all people to contribute to the life of the church.

Mark Bates is a Professor of Mathematics at Oxnard College, and has served on numerous church boards and committees. He is currently the Parliamentarian of the General Conference of the FMC-USA.
