Is Christian patriotism possible, or does it present the believer with conflicting allegiances? This talk will engage questions of nationalism, patriotism, and civil religion in both theological and political perspectives. It will explore the ways in which an ancient African bishop--Saint Augustine of Hippo--may be able to help us navigate the perils and promise of our political contexts.
