Community Groups: Sharing Our Stories

Build Community, Share Your Story, Know your Neighbors
Summer Community Groups at FMCSB

During Encounter this year we started many important conversations about racial realities in our world and the church. The path toward further understanding and toward no partiality is slow and can be filled with pain. As the body of Christ we acknowledge that we are stronger as a community and individuals when we are developing closer relationships with one another. Active listening and telling our stories in small groups is one way we want to move forward. The goal is to give us a deeper understanding of our brothers and sisters in Christ, reflect on our own stories and background, strengthen our connections to each other, and help us grow in empathy, compassion, and listening.

During the summer we will be offering a different type of community group, centered on sharing our own personal stories with the members of our group. Our community groups will give space each week for one person to tell their life story followed by a time of questions, comments, and prayer (1 hour total). We will provide group members a set of questions to spark their sharing. These might include their experiences with joys and challenges, racial realities, military service, cultural background, disability, faith journey, etc. If you would like to join us please sign up for a Community Group: Sharing Our Stories, which will run for 6-8 weeks during the summer starting the week of June 16-22nd. Sign-up by June 9th.
