This summer we want to read a book with you! Similar to Santa Barbara Reads, we wanted our church community to read through a book together. In light of our country’s past and present racial injustices, we thought it would be fitting to read Trouble I’ve Seen: Changing the Way the Church Views Racism by Drew G.I Hart. We hope this is one small step that will help our community a) understand racism in a deeper way  b) begin to acknowledge and repent of practices which have sustained racism in our community and c) imagine new ways of practicing racial justice. Whether this is your first time thinking about race or a daily reality that you grapple with, we invite you to read, pray, and do some soul-searching with us. May God meet our community as we seek to listen, learn, and love by and through His Spirit.  

We will be meeting on Zoom for three facilitated discussion groups at 10:00am on Saturdays: July 11th (Discussing Ch1-3), July 25th (Discussing Ch 4-6), and August 8th (Discussing Ch 7-9) and then one final panel discussion on August 22nd. All the pastors will be reading and we are excited to discuss this book together with our church. Feel free to reach out if you have questions or thoughts you want to process during your reading. The final panel discussion will conclude FMCSB Reads and help us reflect on, wrap up, and contemplate what we have learned.

FMCSB Reads Final Panel Discussion will be on August 22 at 10am. Four members in our congregation who have spent time understanding and pursuing racial justice will be answering questions submitted by group participants.
