Prayer Service of Lament, Intercession, and Mercy for Racial Justice

Our nation is crying out in pain because of the evil and oppression of racism. Lord Have Mercy! Our hearts break at the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery, Breonna Taylor, and George Floyd and countless others in the history of our nation. Our hearts break at the disproportionate number of people of color dying from COVID-19. Our hearts break at the divisions erupting because of long-standing histories of oppression.  As Christians we are called to cry out for justice and cry out to our God no matter how we are feeling. God invites our prayers even when we are angry, silent, confused, or outraged. God will not turn from us and His Spirit will not depart from us.

On Thursday, we want to have a service of prayer at 7pm where we join in prayers of lament, intercession, and mercy for our nation and community groaning under the brokenness of racism. Lament is the first step in finding true hope; and the Scriptures, especially the Psalms, teach us how to lament: “How long, O Lord? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me?” (Psalm 13:1)

As we honestly grapple with what is happening in our nation and the history which has led to this point, we are confident that God will meet us in our brokenness. The Psalms assure us that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted, and saves the crushed in spirit.

Please come and join your pastors and church family in prayer on Zoom by clicking HERE. We will have a loose structure led by Pastor Helen and Pastor Nikki where you will have the opportunity to share your prayers/laments in community, similar to the Midday prayer format when anyone is welcome to pray aloud.
