Encounter: Christian Mission to Gaza

Christian Mission to Gaza:
A conversation with Pastor Hanna Massad

For the Encounter Class on April 19, we have the privilege of listening to Pastor Hanna Massad, who heads the organization “Christian Mission to Gaza”.  He holds an M.Div. and Ph.D. from Fuller Seminary.  A Palestinian Christian, Hanna for many years pastored the only Evangelical church in the Gaza strip.   He later relocated to Jordan, where his ministry reaches out to Iraqi and Syrian refugees.  Pastor Hanna and his team continue to make regular trips to Gaza to preach the Gospel and offer relief to families in distress.  Using pictures from his onsite visits, Pastor Hanna will talk about what it’s like to be a Christian in the extreme conditions faced by Palestinians today.  He will also describe his ministry’s outreach to refugees from war-torn Iraq and Syria.  Don't miss this great opportunity!

For childcare, RSVP by April 15th to childcare@fmcsb.org

Breakfast Burritos for Youth Missions

BREAKFAST BURRITOS ARE BACK

Perhaps you never knew they were gone! Oh yes, they were gone. The last time they appeared was in 2016 when Team Costa Rica 16 was working on their fundraising.

Now Team Costa Rica 18 is getting ready for their trip June 10-19 to Esterillos. There they will partner with the Leon family, whom we prayerfully and financially support, in ministry and service. We are sending ten high school youth and two leaders who are raising $1800 each.

Beginning this Sunday, April 8 the burritos will be on sale for $5. Of course, if you want to donate more, we won’t turn you down.

We will be offering these burritos between the 8 and 9:30 am services, between the 9:30 and 11 am, and after the 11 am, while supplies last.

Grab a hot cup of coffee, buy a burrito, hang out on the deck and support Team Costa Rica!

Josy's Testimony
Nov

7:00 PM19:00

Josy's Testimony

In 2001, our church began praying for Josy, a childhood friend and longtime ministry partner of Jamie and Alissa Shattenberg in Madagascar.
The Lord used Josy to bring the gospel of Christ to the remote village of Mahabana that was taboo Jesus Christ and the Bible. Through life-threatening illnesses, a kidney transplant in India, caught in the middle of a human trafficking circle and now full health, the Lord has used Josy's life time and again as a living testimony in Mahabana and the surrounding villages that indeed the Lord reigns over all!
Come meet and greet Josy and hear how the Lord is using him to further the gospel in Madagascar.

Wesley White Concert

Wesley and Cynthia White are missionaries in Glasgow, Scotland, under the auspices of Communitas International.  Wesley also teaches Biblical Studies at the Scottish School of Christian Mission.  They help lead a new church plant called the Upper Room Church which is made up of about 100 refugees from Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan and Syria, all from Muslim backgrounds.  They capitalize on the classical music tradition of Europe to tell stories about what God is doing in that region today.

We know you will enjoy this great eening of music.

One of his interests is Christian civility in an uncivil world. Also included are speaker Juan F. Martinez, Vice President for Diversity and International Ministries and Professor of Hispanic Studies & Pastoral Leadership at Fuller Theological Seminary, plus ten outstanding break-out sessions.

Register by going online at sbmissionconference.org

Mission Statement: “To inform, inspire, and engage in the work of God’s mission”

Background:
The first Santa Barbara Mission Conference took place Saturday, January 18, 2003, when missionary statesman Harold Kurtz spoke to a group of about 80 people who gathered at First Presbyterian Church for a mission conference.  That conference included presentations by nine mission groups, all of them validated by the Presbytery of Santa Barbara.

The conference’s goal, then and now, is to inform, inspire, and engage all who attend so that they will be active in God’s work in the world.

The conference has grown and expanded so that it now draws more than 400 people over a Friday evening through Saturday afternoon in late January.  It has become a regional event, with people coming from beyond the tri-counties of California’s south and central coasts.  It has expanded also in denominational terms.  It has also expanded in denominational terms; while it is officially a ministry of the Santa Barbara Presbytery, the Santa Barbara Mission Conference is in partnership with local congregations of the Free Methodist, Covenant, and Lutheran churches, whose members are represented on the SBMC Council.”

As it grows and expands, Santa Barbara Mission Conference is intentional about appealing to college students and young adults. It is often during those years that a person senses a call to serve God in an enduring way.
