Ash Wednesday Service

  • 1435 Cliff Drive Santa Barbara, CA 93109 (map)

Pope Benedict XVI remind us,

“Lent reminds us, therefore, that Christian life is a never-ending combat in which the “weapons” of prayer, fasting and penance are used. Fighting against evil, against every form of selfishness and hate, and dying to oneself to live in God is the ascetic journey that every disciple of Jesus is called to make with humility and patience, with generosity and perseverance.” In this Christian life, we are constantly pursuing a more intimate connection with God and seeking the transformation that God alone can bring. As we come together for Ash Wednesday, we participate in the act of dying to ourselves to live in God as we reflect on our mortality and the life that God alone gives.

Join us for this worship service of scripture and music that will prepare us for the season of Lent. This service highlights themes of humility and sacrifice, and we will provide ashes to put on your forehead in the shape of a cross, a beautiful and long-standing tradition of the church.
